Memory fades

Just spent more time than I really would have liked to have getting a new page up here for an upcoming event. It is all my own fault since I have not been using the site since last spring!

March 2016 Stromgard Hippocampus Scriptorium

Is the new event that I helped organize the classes and scheduling. I am actually going to sit in on one or two of them as well!

I have at the end of 2015 stepped down as Minister of Arts and Science for the Barony. It was the end of my term and I opted to give someone else a chance to try out the position. I am looking forward to seeing what Gabrielle tries his hand with the position. Currently I am one of several Lady’s in Waiting to Queen Driffina, so have been going to a few events that I have not gone to previously.

I hope to work on some projects during the year that may be worthy to enter into an Arts and Science competition. Until then I support Baroness Jill Blackhorse in her endeavors. My hair has been offered for use for Roman Hairstyles for the upcoming Kingdom Arts & Science & Bardic Competition. Upon Baroness Jill’s advice, I am borrowing a household member’s Roman garb. We are looking forward to the event and hope to see new and familiar faces.

The fun continues

Another lovely day of sharing. Today was the embroidery and embellishments themed Arts and Science day at the North Plains Senior Center. People were eagerly lined up outside the doors before 10am.

I had forgotten to print out my class schedule and where I planned to have classes and my brain was still working slow, so took a few minutes to get going. I have a note to not make that mistake again. Part of it was a request to have a couple of classes upstairs that I had thought to have downstairs, but adjusted and went on.

Class scheduling excitement

The February Embroidery themed event is coming up this next weekend. I am looking forward to it and hope that everyone has fun. I will be in the Embroidery 102 class in the afternoon.

I spent time working with HL Marya and HL Kattera with their Heraldry themed event for March this morning. We have a couple of classes that have ideas for them but still need instructors, so trying to get those locked into place before the end of the month.

This all made me look at April that I had thrown a dart at the calendar and declared it Scribal themed. Marya, Fae and Ana threw class ideas and suggestions out and have requests in with people for class descriptions and a couple already up. Quick way to have a couple hours go by this afternoon! The actual FB event page is still closed until we have more classes up, but you can look at it through the link above. If you have scribal interests and have a class suggestion, do drop a note.

I had chatted with Baron Refr at Revels on Friday and he did say that there are period beer recipes that only need a few weeks before they are ready. So checked with the North Plains Senior Center and they are fine with having alcohol on the premises – thus a go for that event! Scheduled with the lovely Margaret for the end of September (the 26th if you are planning that far out like I am). The Dragon’s Mist Brew people get a chance to propose classes first, then I will open it up to the An Tir brew group. Hopefully not all classes will require use of the kitchen to implement!

Lissette was really exhausted after Founding Revels and worried about her driving home alone, so offered to do the driving. We do not live that far apart after all and not an onerous task to undertake. 😉 I may have taken advantage of her in this state and pinned her down to take the lead on a feast theme for the fall as an Arts & Science day. She quickly rattled off three or four classes without much thought, so knew I was on the right track. Bonus for her is it gives her Event Steward responsibility, without the pressure of making a profit or breaking even on the event.

Now, to take my clean, patient terriorists for a walk.

Fiber day was a blast

We had over thirty people attend the event and learn something new, or brush up on something already known.

People were laughing and talking and of course learning. Several people told me thank you throughout the day for providing them with the opportunity. Last time we had three people travel from the Shire of Hauksgard in Hood River to learn with us. This time we had four people travel down from the Barony of Glymm Mere to learn and play with us. Fantastic!!

My eight people dropped to six in the soapmaking class. I had a potential student that didn’t check to see if there was openings, so remember ASK! You never know if someone didn’t show up as intended and there is now a class opening. From my class I had several people who had previously been intimidated by the process get over their intimidation. Lots of questions asked and answered and they each got to take home two bars of soap.

I’ll offer this again in the future I think.

Next month is embroidery and embellishment theme. There are still openings in several of the classes, so sign up now!

Things are a brewing

I have fun organizing events. So these monthly Arts and Science events are a blast. Bringing people who have excitement at what they do with those who want to learn. Joy.

The current challenge is getting things started towards the May event. Yes, that’s several months away, so why start now? Cause sometimes things move slowly. Throw out the idea and see what gets thrown back. In an effort to truly make this a tri-barony event, put out feelers in other baronies before my own.

Sewing classes so that people can do simple garb of tunic and pants. A class to explain what the SCA is about. How to set up an encampment. Period food. Trying to get some people from the fighting community to explain things.

March has a heraldry theme that Her Ladyship Marya and Her Ladyship Kattera were having fun throwing out class ideas left and right. They are currently filling in teachers for the ideas they have.

April Her Ladyship Ana de la Sara and Her Ladyship Fae are pulling together ideas for a Scribal theme. How to paint charters, colors, whitework, etc.
