Course Title: Beginning Etiquette for An Tir (2 hrs)
So you’ve just been to your first SCA event and you are… totally bewildered. It was fun! It was exciting! You just have no idea what the heck just happened! Who were those people with the crowns? What was with all the bowing? How come this guy was called “Your Excellency,” and that lady was called “Your Grace?” And what was with that guy with the huge entourage?
In this class, Maestra Cassia Rafaella and HLady Kendryth filia Gerald will cover the fundamentals of SCA and An Tirian etiquette. Beginning with an explanation of awards and titles, how to identify and correctly address different levels of the populace, when it is appropriate (and not appropriate) to bow or curtsy, then moving on to general etiquette of feasts and court. Finally, we will wrap up with a mock court where participants will get to practice what they have learned.

Handouts will be provided.

This class is free and open to any who wish to attend.

Course Title: Campsite to Encampment: simple ways to transform your modern to medieval –Let’s unleash some serious creativity to go from camping in the modern sense to a “tourney-like” encampment. And lets count it down! A quick romp through

SCA camping: 1 hour

5 MIN: SCA Camp T minus 5– “So this is what you should have to go camping at all” The most basic list for not being horribly miserable for those that have never really camped past boy scouts. The first camping season–keep it basic and modern except these 3 things….

15 Min: SCA Camp T minus 4 — “I have a Honda hatchback, exactly $ 45 dollars and a dream of an encampment some day” Quick easy inexpensive and portable for little money – up to 2 years in. 10 items to focus on

15 Min: SCA Camp T Minus 3 — “I have a beat up pick up and I have camped at least 3 years now so give me the bling” Boxes and stuff and 3 plus years

10 Min: SCA T Minus 2 — ” Households, group camping and we need a bigger vehicle” Heraldry, walls, group Kitchens, and the comforts of the Medieval hall. Probably 4-7 years in.

5 Min: SCA T Minus 1 — ” My Encampment is now nicer than my home…I need servants!” Any time after 7 years and the real die hards

10 Min: SCA T Minus 0 — “Liftoff” Questions

Most of these options are NOT Period in a strict way but rather a stop gap period-looking suggestion to help de-modernize gear. These are quick tips designed with newer SCA campers in mind but intended for anyone not quite ready or able to “go medieval” yet…

Make a Simple Medieval Wimple – Lady Beatriz

Step up your garb game by covering your modern hair. This class will teach you how to make a simple wimple that does not rely on copious amount of hair to anchor to your head. Although this wimple is not a “period” technique, it looks pretty darn good from 20 feet. It will stay put throughout the day allowing you to pin a veil to it.

In this class we will make a custom pattern to fit your head and sew the primary seam on a sewing machine. You will learn a simple hemming stitch to finish the edges and complete your wimple. Bring to class: one yard of lightweight white/beige linen or silk or muslin. If you want to make a matching veil to pin to your wimple, buy two yards. I will supply everything else.

If you are new to sewing and need help with the fabric, please contact me privately through my email: pax2006 at comcast dot net.

Cost: $2.00
Max students: 5
Time: 2-3 hours (less if you have experience sewing, if you’d like to register for another class)

If those that attend would rather focus on other pieces some allotments will be made.
