Frau Brigitta Riegers von Wolfratshausen is a middle class woman living in approximately 1560s southern Germany. Brigitta grew up in Giesen as the oldest of four children, in the Prince-Bishopric of Hildesheim. Her parents being devout Catholics, sent her to be educated with the nuns where she learned how to spin and knit and do other needle works along with reading, writing and basic mathematics.
